Quiet book

Updated: Feb 27, 2022

This project took me so much time... I left it aside for a while and almost forgot it! I finally got back to it, I had to Finnish!!!

You will need:

  • Thread (same colors as the colours of felt used) and needles.

  • Embroidery thread

  • Scratch

  • Different colours of fabric

  • Coton

  • Double sided fusible interfacing

I went through quiet book pictures on pinterest for inspiration and made my own drawings. If you want to make your own quiet book, this is how I did :

Draw the shapes on the paper side of the fusible interfacing,

  • cut them out roughly and iron them on the felece or fabric (paper side twards you)

  • you can now cut them out carefully.

Page size:

Every page measures : length: 17 cm hight: 15 cm + 1cm seam all around.

Detailed pictures below :

Learning how to count and sort out

  • Each apple has two sides with a little piece of yarn in between for the stem.

  • You will need only one side of the apple for those sewn on the baskets. (1 red, 1green)

  • sew a small square of scratch on the back of each apple going on the tree. sew the other half of the scratch on the tree where you want the apple to be.

  • I crocheted baskets but it is easier and faster to cut them out in felt.

Learning the colors of the rainbow

If you find funny shaped buttons you can sew them on small pieces feleece to put them on the rainbow with the matching colors.

How's the weather page

(This page is sooo long... but it's worth it!)

  • The embroideries are made with DMC embroidery thread.

  • Les motifs sont brodés avec du fil mouline DMC.

  • I use erasable pens to draw details I will embroider. Iron quickly and gently to preserve feleece and the pen drawings disappear.

The jelly fish to learn to count from 1 to 10.

I don't know what happended between my first drawing and my final jelly fish but that's how it turned out.

Cut the yarn before sewing the jellyfish to the fabric so thaht you can sew the yarn as you go sewing the jellyfish to the fabric.

Thread beads on each piece of yarn from 1 to 10 and make a knot at the end of it.

Assembling pages

Put the pages to be asembled, right sides together. Sew the three sides together see clips on the picture. The fourth side is left unsewn. It will later be sew with the other pages. Cut the corners and turn the page inside out.

For the cover of the book I used blue stars fabric the same size as two pages put together I added 3 cm for the binding.

For the inside of the cover, I used colored feleece.

For the other pages of the book, I used left over fabrics or feleece.

My advice

It's not easy to find the fabric you imagine for your quiet book. I think ptchwork fabrics are perfect for this project.

I'm proud of myself now 😂 yes I finally finnished my project! quand même j'ai réussi à

I gave some general guidelines, maybe you still have some questions. So you can ask me for more details on my facebook or instagram. (link at the top of this page)
